Introduction
Dear readers,
welcome to my blog. This blog is intended not only for researchers in the field of genealogy looking for guidance to navigate archival documents more easily, but also for laypeople who are open to gaining information and expanding their historical knowledge (not only) about our Czech and Moravian regions.
Why focus on the everyday life of our ancestors? The answer is simple. All our ancestors contributed in their own way to the development and improvement of our country and helped make it possible for us to be born and continue their legacy. They experienced joys and hardships, faced misfortune, or dealt with the consequences of nearby wars. Through these experiences, over the centuries, they developed survival strategies which they passed down to their descendants.
And what is everyday life exactly? Everyday life refers to the recurring activities, habits, and duties of daily life that create the rhythm of each person’s routine. I will present this everyday life of our ancestors mainly through entries in parish registers. Don’t worry—these will not be long articles or copied knowledge from someone else. I offer you my own experiences in a concise form, gained while researching ancestors in archival documents. Posts will also include images to make the discussed topics easier to visualize. In the next online session, we will open a chapter on the topic of Parish Registers.
